PSIA Fall Training

Every year in the Fall the Professional Ski Instructors of America host their 'fall training' for Divisional Educators - The people who coach and certify instructors.

As a member of the Alpine and Childrens Education Teams for Rocky Mountain, I was invited to spend five days at A Basin with the best instructors in the Rocky Mountains. It started off with a Keynote presentation from USSA (United States Ski And Snowboard Association) on their 'out of the box' approach to innovative coaching. We were hoping to be on-snow for our second day of training but mother nature was not co-operating and we were forced to be inside for safety reasons. After going over the usual office updates, we studied some footage of Michaela Shifrin in a GS course and compared it to footage our ski instructors skiing high performance turns to come up with strategies to help our instructors be more like Miki! We also the developed ways to introduce this movement pattern to our guests earlier in their career.

The third day was on-snow at A-Basin and we worked in groups to help each other experiment with the strategies that we had discussed the day prior, as well as warming up our clinic leading and personal ski skills for the upcoming season.

Day 4 switched gears with most of the 200 participants leaving just the Kids and Nordic groups. It was great to see XC skiers load the chair at 8am to do some laps before the mountain opened to the public. We received feedback from the kids committee and welcomed our new team members before heading out on the slopes to practice moving through three presentation styles: presenting, teaching and facilitating.

We went back inside on day 5 to work on clinician staffing and editing work books and quizzes.

A big thanks to A Basin for getting the groups on snow given the snow conditions in the US at the moment!

The 16/17 season is off to the races with A-Basin opening to the public, and I am excited to begin sliding as soon as possible! I'd like to thank you for skiing and riding with me last season and invite you to ski again this upcoming season.

I have been discussing dates with many people so please book early to avoid disappointment. If I am unavailable on a given day I can arrange other instructors, and I only work with instructors who are fully certified, professional and experts in their field.

Lessons are for up to 6 people of your choosing and give you the ability to purchase discounted lift tickets for those in the group: $50 for adults, $30 for 6-14yo and $10 for 3-5yo

Full day lessons: $679

AM Lessons: $449

PM Lessons: $369

To book: please send me your name, dates that you would like to book, and a good phone number so that a representative can contact you to finalize the process

10 Pack of Lessons: $6,110

This is ideal for:

• Someone looking to make some serious improvements this season
• A great way to save if you are going to book one lesson for the adults and one for the kids on the same day
• Those looking to create their own custom multi-week group, where you can choose the families you want to ski with, what days you want to ski, and which ski areas you want to ski.

10 Pack lessons are completely transferable and flexible on dates. Once purchased, all you do is work with me to discuss the dates one at a time. It snowed 10" overnight and you decided to take the day off work, no problem. Last minute meeting and you want to move to another day, no problem. Extended family came up to visit, send them over.

Think that you will be booking more than one day of lessons, but can't commit to 10 lessons? Reach out to me and I'll try to connect you with others like you, and together we can get to 10.

10 Pack lessons are non refundable but are completely transferable and flexible.
